It all began in 1911, in Aversa, a small town near Caserta, with the birth of great-grandfather Pasquale. At just 16 years old, he began working as a shoemaker, repairing and making handmade shoes. It was then that a silent passion was born, which would shape the path of our entire family. Over time, the Circondato family grew: 13 children, many of whom found themselves attracted to the same world of footwear and leatherwork. As the years passed, the children became fathers and the trade was passed down naturally, almost instinctively, from generation to generation.

Today, more than a century later, we continue to carry on that tradition. Our methods have not changed much: the shoes are still assembled by hand, "ngopp o bancariell", as we say in our dialect, an ancient workbench technique passed down for decades. Each phase, from sewing (strictly by hand with needle and thread) to brushing, from finishing to packaging, is carried out with the same care and pride as back then.

The name Bortignani may seem new, but it has deep roots. It is a tribute to our tradition: a brand born from the Circondato family, built to honor its tradition and at the same time to speak to a new generation of artisans.
